Dee leaving as coach of Lyon volleyball team

Lyon College Head Volleyball Coach Justin Dee has announced his resignation, effective immediately, and plans to take a head coaching position with an Alabama private prep school.

"The decision to leave Lyon College has been the toughest decision I have ever had to make," said Dee. "For the past four years, Lyon Volleyball has been my life and my passion. While Lyon Volleyball will never leave my heart, my life must go on to pursue personal goals outside of the volleyball realm that I have made for myself. This team will be competitive for years to come due to the hard work and tradition that these girls and the teammates before them have built here at Lyon Volleyball. Their talent and dedication to Lyon and to each other are boundless."

In his four years as head coach at Lyon, Dee compiled a record of 75-60, recorded a mark of 44-32 in TranSouth Conference play and led the Pipers to their first Region XI Tournament appearance in school history. During his tenure, Dee's teams have produced four first-team, four second-team and three honorable mention All-TranSouth Conference selections. Dee's volleyball players have also embodied the definition of student athlete and have notched 14 All-TranSouth Scholar Athlete honors.

"Justin did an all-around great job with our volleyball program," said Lyon College Athletic Director Kirk Kelley. "Not only did he put a great volleyball program on the floor, but he also put great student athletes in the classroom. We'll definitely miss his passion for Lyon on and off the floor."

Kelley also remarked that Dee was not only an asset to Lyon, but an asset to the volleyball community as well, holding numerous tournaments and camps for local athletes over his four-year stay.

Dee said: "I have also tried to remember a saying, 'Sometimes we have to give up the life we have planned for ourselves to take hold of the life that God has set before us.' Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that I leave a place that will forever stay with me as some of the greatest times of my life. Lyon Volleyball is not one player or one coach, it is a tradition of winning and building young ladies to become better teammates. I hope the tradition of family will never leave the Lyon Volleyball team. I look forward to seeing what God has in store, not only for my life, but for the lives of everyone associated with Lyon Volleyball."

According to Kelley, a search for Dee's successor is entering its final stages with several quality applicants. The new head coach should be announced before the end of July, he said.
