Bell places fourth in bagpipes competition in Kansas City

Lyon College Scottish Heritage Program Director Jimmy Bell placed fourth in the Winter Storm Weekend Scottish competition in Kansas City, Mo., Jan. 11-13.

Bell's fourth place finish out of 36 competitors in the Midwest Highland Arts Fund & MidWest Pipe Band Association United States Silver Medal Piobaireachd Competition earned him a $200 prize.

Bell said he was honored to play at such an event.

"Some of the best players in the world were there both playing and judging," he said.

Winter Storm also featured competitions in drumming. Pipers and drummers travel from all around the world, including Ireland, Canada and Scotland, to participate in the annual event.
