McAfee Virus Scan Student Installation

 Lyon is now providing anti-virus protection software for all residential students.  ITUG (Lyon's Information Technology Users Group, which includes student representation) has approved a policy making it mandatory that all computers connected to the campus network run this Lyon-provided and approved software. This system, purchased from McAfee, is the same one we use to protect the campus servers and college-owned PCs. We download virus updates daily and disseminate them to all participating PCs. Also, we operate a server which provides Windows Security Updates quickly. Both types of security updates are required to keep a Windows machine operating safely and securely.

It is time to expand this security coverage to include all PCs on campus. Here are the reasons for loading the software as soon as possible:

1) Your Windows PC will be protected from most security threats by automatically loading both anti-virus and Windows security updates

2) Lyon policy dictates that all Windows computers connected to the network run this software.

3) During the summer, even while not at Lyon, your PC will continue to receive updates for the anti-virus and Windows operating system (if you connect to the Internet while you're away)

4) In the coming school year your Windows PC will not function on the network at all without this software. By loading it now, you can acclimate yourself to the software and avoid the rush next fall if there are any hitches in installation.
