At the end of the fall semester, 2011, Lyon College faculty and staff initiated a winter clothing drive to provide cold weather clothing to students who needed coats, gloves, hats and scarves. Many students found it tremendously helpful and the Free Store was created.
Since its inception, the Free Store has collected clothing and small miscellaneous items from faculty, staff, the Batesville community and Lyon’s move-out program, Ditch the Dumpster.
Lyon College’s Free Store is open for Lyon students, staff and faculty to donate and/or shop. Through the Free Store, Lyon College is working to divert reusable items from the landfill while proving a fun and free shopping experience for our campus.
The Free Store has incorporated Career Development’s clothes closet providing appropriate clothing for interviews and Health and Wellness’s jeans closet which provides pants for students slimming down from the campus weight-loss program, The Biggest Winner.
Students Amber Witcher and Hallie Rowe McQuay keep the Free Store organized and open.
The Free Store is located on the second floor of Brown Chapel.
