2006 Visiting Writers Series

Morning Lectures

All VWS lectures take place at 11 o’clock a.m.

Bevens Music Room (adjacent to Brown Chapel) on the Lyon College Campus

Kevin Brockmeier (Sept. 19) is very, very engaging, and will talk about getting his driver's license and afterwards keeping a bottle of Grey Poupon mustard in his glove compartment and the way this, among other entertaining anecdotes, contributed to his becoming a writer.

Jason Sommer (October 24) will speak about his family's experiences as victims of the Holocaust, their eventual escape to the U. S., and the impact that all of this had on his growing up.

Andrea Hollander Budy’s presentation (November 28) focuses on her feelings of inferiority growing up. Believing herself unattractive, she was envious of others who were. In her talk, she examines the ways in which her perceptions of beauty were formed, as well as the way all of us come to understand what beauty is and who we are in terms of it.
