Counseling
The Counseling Center is located in the lowest level of Edwards Commons. This building also houses the Director of Health and Wellness.
Making An Appointment
You may make an appointment by calling 870-307-7277 (Administrative Assistant) or 870-307-7284 (Director of Counseling). If they are unable to answer their phone, your call will be connected to her voicemail, you may leave your name and phone number and Diane will call you back as soon as possible. You may also come by the office and schedule an appointment. Appointments usually last approximately 50 minutes but shorter times may be scheduled. Appointments are scheduled between 8 and 5 from Monday through Friday.
Counseling is offered free of charge to Lyon College students. If you must cancel an appointment, please notify in advance in order to open up your space for others.
What is counseling?
Counseling is a confidential process during which you work with a professional counselor in becoming a healthier person--intellectually, physically, emotionally and spiritually. During our academic year, approximately 10% of the student body at Lyon has been to one or more individual counseling sessions.
Confidentiality
The Counseling Center staff subscribes to the Code of Ethics of the American Counseling Association and to the professional laws of the State of Arkansas. Adherence to these standards ensures the confidentiality of all counseling services. You can be assured that all discussions with the counselor are private and no information about you can be shared without your written permission. Confidentiality will be kept at all times with the following exceptions:
- When a client poses a clear and imminent danger to her/himself.
- When a client poses a clear and imminent danger to others.
- When legal requirements demand that confidential information be revealed, i.e. a court subpoena.
- When there is reason to suspect child/elder abuse.
