CAMPUS AND FACILITIES
Lyon’s picturesque 136-acre campus is conveniently located in a comfortable neighborhood setting. It
features modern, attractive, and functional academic facilities such as the black-box Holloway
Theatre, Lyon Business and Economics Building, and the state-of-the-art Derby Center for Science and Mathematics. Nine student residence halls are grouped into the houses that make
up the College’s house system. The Mabee-Simpson Library contains 200,000 items and provides
access to over 20,000 periodicals. Recreational facilities include intramural
fields, a regulation soccer field, six lighted
regulation tennis courts, Becknell Gymnasium (which
features a fitness center and an indoor swimming pool),
Scots Baseball Field, the Kelley Indoor Baseball
Complex, a walking track, and a sand volleyball court.
On the southern portion of the campus, Bryan Lake
features a walking path and flowering trees.
INFORMATION SERVICES AND TECHNOLOGY
Lyon College now has wireless internet capability
essentially throughout the campus. As well, all College
facilities, including every student residence hall room,
the computer laboratories, and the cyber café in the
student union, are connected to the campus fiber-optic
network, which provides access to e-mail, the Internet,
and standard software applications. All campus residence
halls have TV connections.
ATHLETICS
Lyon competes in the NAIA Division I’s TranSouth Conference and fields intercollegiate athletic
teams in baseball (men), fast-pitch softball (women, starting in 2007-08), basketball (men, women), cross country (men, women), golf (men, women),
soccer (men, women), tennis (men, women), and volleyball (women). Lyon also offers an extensive
intramural program.
LOCATION
Lyon is located in Batesville, Arkansas, a town of about
10,000 that serves as a commercial, medical,
governmental and cultural hub for the surrounding
region. Nestled in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains,
it offers abundant opportunities for outdoor activities.
Batesville is approximately 90 minutes northeast of
Little Rock and two-and-one-quarter hours west of
Memphis. The community provides a safe and welcoming
setting for the College and its students.
COSTS, SCHOLARSHIPS, AND FINANCIAL AID
The comprehensive fee for 2007-08 is $22,604 (tuition,
$15,466; room and board, $6,644; and mandatory student
fees, $494). Lyon offers an extensive program of
merit-based scholarships that cover costs up to the
direct cost of attendance. It also administers federal
and state need-based financial aid programs. More than
93% of Lyon students receive some form of financial
assistance.
