EVERY Gift Makes a Difference

The Annual Fund

The annual fund is the lifeblood of the College. Every gift--large and small--helps make it possible for Lyon students to receive a first-rate education. Annual fund gifts allow the College to keep its tuition costs down and its budget in balance, and account for nearly nine percent of the annual operating budget. The annual fund supports student scholarships, faculty salaries, student life programs and library resources. It allows us maintain the Lyon's buildings and grounds. It pays our electricity bills. In short, it gives us the dollars we need to meet the immediate needs essential in providing our students with a quality college experience.

A special note to our Alumni: Many funding agencies review our alumni giving rate when considering grant requests. Your consistent annual gift, regardless of its size, helps ensure that corporations and foundations know we have the support of our alumni!

Endowment

The importance of endowment lies in its permanence. Named endowed funds can be established for scholarships, faculty positions, building maintenance, or student awards, to name a few, and provide lasting support for these special programs. Unrestricted endowment provides enduring support for the overall health of the institution. Minimum levels are required to establish certain types of endowment funds.

Capital Purposes

As the College grows--whether that growth is in programs, number of students, or physical size--so does its capital needs. Construction and renovation of buildings, new equipment, additional athletic facilities, and state-of-the-art technology are part of the reality of keeping pace in a changing world. Special gifts for such purposes continue to make the difference in the quality of our programs and in the beauty of the Lyon campus.

The best method of making a gift will not be the same for every donor. Each gift can be structured to fit the donor’s particular circumstances and to yield favorable tax consequences. The donor can specify whether his or her gifts will be expendable for current operations or specific projects, or will be set aside as endowment to provide income for use in perpetuity.
